Taj Mahal (1631-1653), a poem in white marble, built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaj Mahal. Rabindranath Tagore calls "a teardrop on the cheek of time". Taj Mahal means "Crown Palace" and is in fact the most well-preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb in the world. It is best described by the English poet, Sir Edwin Arnold, as "Not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones." It is a celebration of woman built in marble and that’s the way to appreciate it. As a tribute to a beautiful woman and as a monument for enduring love, the Taj reveals its subtleties when one visits it without being in a hurry. The dome is made of white marble, but the tomb is set against the plain across the river and it is this background that works its magic of colours that, through their reflection, change the view of the Taj. The colours change at different hours of the day and during different seasons. Like a jewel, the Taj sparkles in moonlight when the semi-precious stones inlaid into the white marble on the main mausoleum catch the glow of the moon. The Taj is pinkish in the morning, milky white in the evening and golden when the moon shines. These changes, they say, depict the different moods of woman.

(Taj Mahal remains closed on Friday) / (Entry ticket valid for 03 hours and 01 time visit only)

Agra fort, built alongside the Yamuna river stretching almost 2.5 km. The fort’s colossal double walls rise 20 m in height and measure 2.5 km in circumference. The fort is surrounded by a moat. The lofty battlements of the Agra fort cast its protective shadow over the far stretching mansions of nobles and princes built along the riverfront. The magnificent towers, bastions and ramparts and majestic gateways symbolized the confidence and power of the third Mughal emperor. The fort contains splendid palaces both in red sandstone and white marble built by two generations of prolific builders, Akbar and later on by Jahangir and Shahjahan. Of the nearly 500 Akbari buildings built in the Bengal and Gujarati traditions, only a few have survived, arrayed in a band on the riverfront.

You take to the Indian skies today as you fly on to the erstwhile royal city of Hyderabad from the India’s Capital City New Delhi.
In Hyderabad, you will stay in at Taj Krishna.
This afternoon proceed for the visit to Golkonda Fort.

Golconda Fort, one of the most accessible of great medieval forts in India.  The Fateh Darwaza or ‘Victory Gate’ at the entrance is made of teak, engraved with a Hindu deity and studded with iron spikes to repel war elephants.  The superb acoustics at the fort enabled a bugle call or drum beat to be heard at the very top of the palace.  This is invariably put to test by visiting crowds who clap at the gate. The palace was cooled by an ingenuous system of clay pipes and Persian Wheels that carried water to the palace chambers at the top where there were hanging gardens.  The famous diamond vaults here once held the Kohinoor and Hope diamonds.

This evening you return to Golconda Fort for a Sound & Light show. Perhaps the largest sound and light show in all of India with a seating capacity of up to 400 persons and a massive illumination of the entire fort that is visible from all corners and explains historical events from the 13th Century.

This vast collection was amassed by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan (Salar Jung III), who was briefly grand vizier to the seventh Nizam. The 39 galleries include early South Indian bronzes and wood and stone sculptures, Indian miniature paintings, European fine art, historic manuscripts, a room of jade and the remarkable Veiled Rebecca by 19th-century Italian sculptor Benzoni.
Approx. 2 kms from the Fort are the Qutb Shai Tombs.

These 21 magnificent domed granite tombs, with almost as many mosques, sit serenely in landscaped gardens where many of their occupants spent large parts of their lives. Seven of the eight Qutb Shahi rulers were buried here, as well as family members and a few physicians, courtesans and other favourites.

Also pay a visit the exquisite late 18th century Chowmahalla Palace  which belonged to Salabat Jung, Prime Minister to the Nizam of Hyderabad.  The palace which was begun in 1750 is believed to be a replica of the Shah of Iran’s palace in Teheran.  Of the original 45 acres only 14 acres remain and this has been recently opened to the public.
End the day with some time spent exploring the Old City which is entered through the Char Minar, the decorative gateway built in 1591 and referred to as the Oriental “Arc de Triomphe”.  This was built by Sultan Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah as show piece at the center of his beautiful city and has become the symbol of Hyderabad.
